Reflection

VCDS 3 was one of my favorite classes this semester. Overall I personally enjoyed the projects we did, and had fun doing them. I do not think I would have done anything differently if I had more time to work on our projects. Obviously there would be more critiques going on, but I felt we had adequate time to complete these projects. I think having time limits does push us to rush or not be fully satisfied with our work occasionally. However when we get jobs or work in the future, we will have deadlines, and short time periods for when we can get projects done. So in all, it helps us pick up the pace with how we work, and grow accustomed to it. Through the semester, I learned how to better help my fellow classmates in critiques, and also learn a lot from them as well. I enjoy it more when the professor is not the only one putting critiques, because learning from your classmates or just hearing other ideas really helps. Most people enjoy solely hearing what the professor has to say because in the end the professor grades your work, but still your peers can also be very helpful. I personally take a lot of inspiration and motivation from my classmates and friends, and admire the work they complete, so I greatly enjoyed being able to complete that in class. Overall, Bing, as a beginning professor I think you're doing well, you still have to grow accustomed to the course, and get more involved with your students in class, but I mean for the way you were thrown in, you're doing well. I personally would like you to be more assertive in critiques. I may challenge what people say, but ultimately I enjoy feedback and critiques. You should not be afraid of hurting the students feelings because we are here to learn and get better, I do not want you to be mean, just more outspoken. Also maybe leaving comments or notes on why we received a certain grade would also benefit us. Additionally maybe do not compare past projects so heavily to what students should do, or create. I understand it being used as examples or a basis, especially because you started teaching this class. But sometimes the professor does not show too much, so that students do not get so easily persuaded by what they think is correct, and don't think enough outside the box. This class was still very enjoyable this semester. I enjoyed it when you shared aspects of your life, or your interest in music, and it would be exciting if you could use that element more in class, like doing in class activities outside of the project with it. I apologize for being rude at any point, as students we enjoy getting comfortable or close with our professors and classmates, and end up letting loose too much in class. Though I still thank you for keeping the class interesting.
